Policy Update - Giveaways

by EVE Online Team9:00am on Thursday 1st October 2026

o7 capsuleers!

Today we're officially updating our giveaway policy for EVE Online. Under the new rules, creators can no longer run more than one giveaway in any rolling 60-minute window. Giveaways also can't be unlocked, sped up, or otherwise boosted by subs, Bits, donations, or any other form of paid support, with a narrow exception for charity streams.

This applies to anyone using EVE in-game assets in giveaways to promote their content, channel or brand, not just EVE Partners or live streamers. ISK, PLEX, ships, SKINs and anything else from New Eden all count, on Twitch, YouTube, Discord or anywhere else. The updated policy takes effect on 1 October 2026.

The spirit of the policy

Giveaways are a great way to gather an audience and reward the people who show up for you. But as livestreaming and content creation have evolved, giveaways have become more frequent and more closely tied to subs and donations.

Slowly but surely, giveaways have drifted away from being a community-building reward. It's reached a point where creators feel they have to run them just to stay competitive, even when they don't want to, or would rather keep them small. That's why we feel it's our duty to step in, take that pressure off creators, and make sure every viewer gets a fair shot, whether they've spent money or not.

In short: a giveaway should support your content rather than become the content itself. It's a thank-you to your community, not an avenue for monetization.

No policy can cover every situation. Where something isn't spelled out below, we'll judge it by that core principle, and we may update the rules as new cases come up. If you're not sure whether an idea fits, ask us first.

What's changing

The EVE Online Content Creation Terms of Use already require subscribers and free viewers to have the same chance to win. What's new is that, outside of charity streams, paid support can't drive a giveaway at all, even one everyone can enter. There's also now a limit on how often giveaways can run.

These are some formats that were allowed before and aren't anymore:

  • Sub goals and Hype Train unlocks. "Hit 100 subs and I'll give away a Machariel," or "Hype Train level 3 unlocks a PLEX giveaway." Giveaways cannot be unlocked or triggered by paid support, even when everyone can enter.

  • Paid prize pools. "Every 1,000 Bits adds 100 million ISK to the pot." Paid support cannot make a giveaway bigger.

  • Paying to speed things up. "Every gifted sub takes five minutes off the giveaway timer." Paid support cannot bring giveaways forward or make them more frequent.

  • Extra chances for Bits or donations. "Cheer 500 Bits for a bonus entry," or a prize for your top donor. The parity rule now explicitly covers any financial support, not just subscriptions.

  • Channel point rewards. "Redeem 50,000 channel points for a SKIN," or spending channel points to trigger or enter a giveaway. On Twitch, subscribers earn channel points faster than everyone else. You can't control that, but it's a fact of the platform, so no in-game items or giveaways can sit behind channel points.

  • Back-to-back giveaways. You can now run no more than one giveaway in any rolling 60-minute window, so one at 20:55 and another at 21:05 would break the limit.

  • Drawings spread across a stream. Any winner picked more than 10 minutes after the first counts as a new giveaway.

  • Giveaway streams. Giveaways should support your content, so there needs to be content for them to support. Streams that exist just to host giveaways and run their own bespoke points systems are not allowed.

As before, subscriber-only giveaways and extra entries for subs aren't allowed.

Here's what's still fine:

  • One giveaway in any rolling hour, open to everyone on equal terms and not tied to paid support.

  • Several prizes or winners in one drawing, as long as every winner is picked and announced within 10 minutes of the first.

  • Re-drawing a winner who turned out to be ineligible or didn't claim their prize, as long as it's the same prize and the re-draw isn't used to drum up more engagement.

  • Celebrating milestones that have nothing to do with paid support, like a follower goal, within the one-per-hour limit.

  • Giveaways tied to fundraising milestones on charity streams, under the conditions below.

Charity streams

Charity streams are the one exception to the paid-support rule. During a clearly identified charity fundraiser, you can tie giveaways to fundraising milestones, like "When we hit $2,000 for charity, we're giving away a Nestor." That's allowed as long as:

  • The money goes directly to a named charity (platforms like Tiltify and Streamlabs Charity handle this for you), or you've publicly committed to donating everything raised, minus unavoidable platform or payment fees

  • You clearly tell viewers which charity benefits and how the fundraiser works

  • You can back it up with reasonable evidence if we ask

The rest of the policy still applies. The one-per-hour limit and the 10-minute drawing window stay in place, and donating can't earn anyone extra entries or better odds of winning. Subs, Bits or donations that aren't part of the disclosed campaign fall under the standard rules. That can change if Fenris provides the prizes, since those campaigns may come with their own conditions.

If you're planning a charity stream with EVE giveaways, give the Fenris Community Team a heads-up, just so we know it's happening. We can help amplify your efforts and provide items for your giveaways.

We know this means rethinking how some of you run your streams, and we appreciate you working with us on it. A huge thank you to all the creators in our community who have shared feedback about giveaways and what role they should have. This update comes in part from what you told us, and we're confident that it'll help the whole creator ecosystem, with channels growing on the strength of their content rather than the size of their prize pool. Your efforts never stop impressing us!
