Tea-thirsty capsuleers,
The kettle is on once again as a new episode of Okami Tea Time is here.
This time, CCP Okami, EVE Online’s Game Design Director, and CCP Monty shine their light on the Catalyst expansion, how it has evolved since launch through to the latest major update, capsuleer response, and the next steps for New Eden.
If you prefer to read a recap, here’s a summary of their discussion.
EVE Online expansions are never static.
Since the release of Catalyst, capsuleers have pushed its systems in unexpected directions, surfaced balance concerns and put fresh pressure on parts of the meta. That feedback is already shaping follow-up changes, with developers continuing to adjust areas that missed the mark and refine systems based on their performance.
Okami Tea Time has a simple goal, which is to open up the conversation.
Capsuleer feedback, along with in-game data, forum discussions, Reddit, Discord, and CSM input, is actively informing what happens next.
Some changes, including ship balance follow-ups and tuning passes, are already being acted on quickly, while larger topics like force projection and future wormhole improvements remain on the table for later updates.
The Catalyst expansion largely landed where it needed to, but not perfectly.
The Redeemer and other overperforming ships were deliberately brought down to keep the meta healthy and avoid power creep, while a few changes, such as Panther and Zirnitra tuning, are already being corrected after missing the intended balance.
Carrier content also arrived overtuned and has since been adjusted to give players more time and breathing room.
When it comes to force projection, the recent changes to Drifter wormholes were only a small step, and bigger solutions are in the works.
The conversation does not end with Catalyst. In the chat, Okami shares early thoughts on future improvements, longer-term ambitions, and how New Eden continues to evolve as a living universe.
Watch the full episode for way more details, and be sure to join the conversation on Discord to inform the future of EVE Online.
Fly safe.
