Carbon 1.0 - Rendering and Physics Mass Test

by EVE Online Team3:30pm on Monday 11th August 2025

TL;DR

Join the mass test on 12 August at 17:00-19:00 UTC on Singularity to help test the performance impact of recent changes to the physics engine, along with upscaling and raytracing being enabled!

Intrepid capsuleers,

A mass test is happening on Singularity on 12 August at 17:00-19:00 UTC, and you are invited to help put the recent changes through the paces.

Destiny updates are integral to the gameplay of EVE Online. Whenever you move around in space, whether you are orbiting an asteroid, warping to a gate, or carefully maneuvering your ship for optimal combat performance, Destiny updates are how the server communicates the position and movement of objects in space to your client. To build toward a future where battle-happy capsuleers can have bigger, more performant fleet fights, we have started by separating Destiny updates from other updates that get sent from the solar system manager to the clients each tick. In the future, this will allow us to optimize these updates to deliver a smoother experience when a lot of things are happening on the server.

Upscaling allows the game client to render the game at a lower resolution, before upscaling it to a larger resolution. This allows higher FPS for a negligible decrease in image quality. Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR3, Intel XeSS and MetalFX for macOS are all supported.

Raytracing uses the dedicated hardware support of modern graphics cards to bring you the most accurate shadows we have ever had. It’s particularly beneficial when there are a lot of assets in space, spread over a large area. While system and scene dependent, they can also be faster than the older shadow system in some cases!

Test Details

  • When: 12 August, 17:00-18:00 UTC

  • Where: Singularity test server (FD-MLJ system)

  • How: Join the in-game channel “masstesting”, follow the MOTD instructions

  • Join fleet W or X through fleet finder

  • Wait for the test to start for further instructions

After the initial test, the server will remain open for extended testing until 15 August at 15:00 UTC, allowing further data collection and refinements. As a thank-you for your service, Large Skill Injectors will be available on Singularity, so there will be plenty of fun to be had during the testing window and opportunities to try something new. The new system will be released on Tranquility on 18 August.

Join the discussion and get your test instructions here.

As always, we really appreciate your help. We could not do any of this without you.

See you on Singularity! o7
