Minmatar Republic

Type DeadSpace
Target Destroy Smuggler Stargate and Kill NPC's
Steps 6
Mission briefing The government reconnaissance team that entered the Roden Shipyard complex shortly after you left quickly discovered something of interest, and extra hidden acceleration gate leading to another deadspace pocket. They accessed the gate, curious to see what lies on the other side, and to their astonishment there lay before them a stargate! It was apparently a smuggler gate which looks to bear the hallmarks of the Angel Cartel. However pirates were nowhere in sight, only Republic and Federation ships. It appears as though the Federation-Republic alliance has taken over this old smuggler gate, and has been using it to smuggle in convoys of goods to Koichi. We discovered another stargate of Gallente design not long ago, which we destroyed, but it seems that our enemies have found more holes in our defenses. The good part is that this smuggler gate seems to be extremely unstable. The Caldari State security forces almost managed to overpower the guards, but reinforcements arrived at the last minute through the gate. What they did notice was that the gate needs a few minutes to recharge before it can be used. And only a few ships are able to warp through the gate each jump cycle. This gives you a huge advantage, if you are fast. I want you to destroy this gate. You will not need to warp through the entire deadspace area again, as we know of another way into the deadspace pocket that contains the stargate, it's located relatively close to the edge of the deadspace area surrounding the Roden Shipyard Factory Station. But be wary of the reinforcements arriving through the gate, if you are not fast enough you will eventually be overpowered. Good luck!

3:46am 2010 Wednesday 31st March 2010 I did this in my Tengu; I have Low-Grade Crystal Alpha/Beta implants and a Pithum C-Type booster, which probably made tanking the damage a lot less scary, but the main thing is that using T2 Heavy Missile Launchers with Scourge Fury ammo (switching to Caldari Navy Scourge for the frigates), and only 3 x BCS II, I was able to kill nearly the whole of each wave as it spawned. Toward the end I had a few Darkanas hanging around, but that's not too much of a problem.

The Darkanas were by far the hardest to kill with kinetic missiles (apparently explosive works better, I was too lazy to check), but at 600m/s in a cruiser, you take little if any damage from the battleships, so just focus on the frigates (if they web or scramble you), and the cruisers to eliminate the incoming damage; the battleships pose little threat if you can keep moving. I suspect lesser cruiser-class ships will struggle to clear the waves as quickly, but as long as you prioritise the cruisers and the frigates, and you have reasonably high velocity / low signature radius, you should be able to keep damage taken down to a survivable level.

You may die of boredom blowing the stargate up, however...

9:09am 2009 Monday 12th October 2009 I tried this mission on my own, after not having any problems with most any level 4 missions in my Raven. However, i got majorly raped and barely escaped with my ship. Thank God, because it would have taken months to recover that stuff on my ship. I mean, im only 5 months in....

Anyway, if you're going solo on this, i don't recommend going after the gate first. The shield and Armor go down quickly, but the Structure is tougher than diamonds. Especially if you're alone. The most i've seen my ship dish out, is 3085.5 to the Mega Structure in Enemies Abound 4 of 5.

Anyway, take out those damn cruisers and battle cruisers (if there ARE any BC's) right off the bat. You can deal with the inevitability of maybe 12 or more battleships, but if 30 or more cruisers and battle cruisers are added to that, life ends quickly.

11:13am 2008 Monday 12th May 2008 Setup
Raven

Rigs:
2 x EM Rigs
1 x Therm Rig

Hi Slots
5 x CN Cruise Launchers (Use CN Cataclysm Cruise Missiles and CN Devastator Missiles on Darkana's)

Mid Slots:
CN XL Shield Booster (I've upgraded this to Thon's Modified XL SB. So it should be more fun now)
CN Shield Boost Amp
Explosion Dampening Field II
Ballistic Deflection Field II
Invul Field II
Heave Cap Booster II (This is just for incase. Normally I don't use it)

Low Slots:
3 CN Ballistic Control Units
1 Damage Control II
1 PDU II

Tactics:
Afer Warp in, I align to the closest celestial body away from the gate. The reason for this is to get some distance between me and when the Darkana's spawns. There Torps can only reach 80km, so this helps a lot because I don't specifically tank for EM. The rig setup I used for 0.0, and it proved to be a good omni tank rig setup.

I shoot the spawns as they come in. Normally I kill all in the spawn before the next spawn appears, which you need to try to do because the DPS gets a bit overwhelming if you don't manage to do that. After I killed all of them, I change to Devastator Cruise for the Darkanas. I try to take out the Darkanas as soon as possible, because they do a LOT of DPS. There lowest tank is Explosion (50% on Shield, 0% on Armor), so I eat through them relatively quickly with the Devastators. After the Darkanas is gone, I change back to Cataclysm.

Normally I kill all the rats before the next spawn comes in, except when the Freedom Liberties comes in. But they are not very hard.

I normally shoot the cruisers first and then the BS, and leave the Frigs for the Hammerhead II's. The only time when I shoot the BS first, is when there is Darkanas in the Spawn. The faster you take them out, then less damage you will take.

I'm normally about 117km from the gate when the second last spawn arrives, so at that point I will turn around, kill them, and wait for the last Darkana spawn. Be sure not to go closer than about 80km to the gate and to turn around the moment that the Darkanas spawns so that you can stay away from those EM Torps.

Also, I must say that the 5 Crystal Implants is helping so that I don't need to use the Cap Boosters.

Hope it helps you.

TACTICS:
I wanted to loot all the NPCs for the Insignias, so I didn't like the idea of just nuking the gate, I wanted to kill everything, and I wanted to do it without warping out. Here's how it's done (pretty standard complex technique) Most of the time you will be using Thermal cruise missiles (I used Caldari Navy Cataclysm). For Darkana's you will use Explosive.

1) Warp in and immediately align yourself to the closest celestial body behind you. For me it was a planet, but it wasn't directly behind, in fact it was at a 90 degree angle to the spawn. (Which isn't so bad if you have a similar one as it increases your transversal velocity thus reducing the damage you take.) Ideally 180 degrees behind because you establish distance between you and the new spawns (a KEY point I will explain shortly)

2) First thing is to remove the Stabbers and Ruptures as both can in theory outrun a Raven. If you want to let them catch up to you and use drones you can, but I dont like drones personally as my skillz don't allow the use of Hammerhead IIs yet. So nuke down all the small things then kill the Tempests/Typhoons.

3) By this time the second and possibly the third spawn will have arrived depending on your dps. When you kill the Darkanas switch to explosive (I found it a lot less wasteful of my faction ammo).

4) By the time you've cleared up, you've probably noticed something. If you've travelled beyond 250km from the new spawns - THEY DO NOT TARGET OR APPROACH YOU!!! This is important as you will not be able to tank the 3 Darkanas firing EM Torps in the last wave.

5) Proceed by nuking everything down at 90km targetting range. THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY CAREFUL ABOUT ARE LIBERTY FREEDOM ships firing CATACLYSM MISSILES in the 4th wave. With my setup I have no thermal hardner because these are the only 3 that do thermal damage in significant quantities. (Research this is the NPC list if you wish.)

2:34am 2008 Thursday 6th March 2008 Tanked in a Raven with faction booster/boost amp, hit from distance with cruise missiles and drones with augmenters. Close-range damage to BSs was done with a Sleipnir. A lot easier than I expected with those two ships.

5:49am 2007 Friday 7th December 2007 I did solo it in a Rattlesnake , all faction tank though .

You must omni-tank , and need very high peak Cap re-gen .

And you must keep moving at full speed throughout , kill every ship , then pop gate .

Never had to warp at all . But it was a toughie . G/L

10:21pm 2007 Saturday 5th May 2007 This really was a tricky mission. I had to attempt it 2x (thanx to respawn after downtime)

Im not sure how i would have finished the mission solo even with a kickass abaddon tank. I allways fly the missions with a support alt.

First time round i concentrated on the waves while my alt concentrated on the gate. Unfortunatly by the time we had the gate 2/3 in structure we both had to warp out seeing the last wave had appeared and my firepower was not enough to lessen them. I then warped back in and after 4 attempts decided this was a no go. My tank has a 85-88% resist against these pirates and i have 2x large armor repper t2, but i didnt last for more than 1 minute seeing the overview showed about 12BS and a load of support frigs.

The next day after downtime i reatempted it again with another strategy. I took all the aggro as usual but this time my alt and i concentrated soley on the NPC's as they were coming in wave after wave. Our drones took out the frigs and we took out the BS's leaving the Darkatanas for last.

I can tank 8 BS's without a hassle but the day prior there were just 4 too many.

We finished off the NPC's and then did the gate. The looting and salvaging took quite some time seeing the wrecks were all spread out, but it was fun and the loot allthough nothing faction wise was fairly decent.

Conclusion: This mission is best done as the agent suggests with some corp m8's. Its definatly more fun doing this in a gang than sitting and gang minig veldspar for 2 hours

Edit: On a side note. The waves ONLY aggroed me, therefore you dont need to worry about any aggro going to the supporter. That helps loads when your alt is pure damage support and cap battery with no resists

3:31pm 2007 Wednesday 14th March 2007 I recently did this mission with a nighthawk in solo.
I had no problems at all, but the damage is really high just when the last wave enters with the darkatanas. I Suggest you not to kill the darkatanas during the whole mission - except maybe one- cos they took too long to poon so you will face many more enemy when you are finished with the darkatana. From the last wave kill the frigs b4 anything - they shoot EM.

12:44am 2006 Sunday 19th November 2006 Tough mission if you let it go on too long when solo (Raven). If I'm just after the LP or completing the mission quickly a handy trick is to kill the fleet stabbers and one Tempest. Then tank the remainder of the spawn while nossing the typhoon.

Target the Gate (which is the mission objective after all).

Shoot it!! Takes some time but with judicious use of faction Shield booster and the cap from the nossing you should destroy it just after the beginning of the second spawn arrives.

If you want to destroy everything I suggest you bring a friend 8)wager
:

seems the mission's tip is to destroy the gate asap, i fighted till the last spawn but finally i gave up. ........those coming NPC is too hard to destroy

5:08pm 2006 Wednesday 25th October 2006 I actually tried to kill the waves before targeting the gate... eventually I ignored the rats and finished the last hull of the gate. After that I didn't expect any more waves since the gate was down, but they'll keep coming.

Just bookmark the location, finish the gate, end the mission and if you want collect loot.
