Okay, so I just got started on EVE. I was originally told to go for a Maller from my starting Executor. Well, that's like 7M ISK just for the ship, not to mention all the equipment I have to get for it. So I asked if there was something I should get in the meantime and was directed to the Punisher. The Punisher appears to be a straight upgrade from the Executor, except in speed, so I've purchased one. Now, I need to know what are good weapons. I'm an Amarr (that may be obvious, I suppose from my ship choices) of the base Soldier type. Since the Punisher is slower than the Executor, I think Id like something with mid range capabilities. These "Medium Modulated Pulse Energy Beam I" looked pretty decent, but I'm guessing they're pretty expensive (I saw some of the lasers on market for up 500k?! That's more than my ship!). I'm planning to upgrade to cruisers soon as I have the money for a Maller, so what should I get in the meantime to hold me over?

Here is my 2 cents.

if your looking to be successful in eve and plan to do the pew pew. I would say have a good fall back first. I started way back when i can hardly remember in a punisher and i still remember looking at my lazers thinking i was all powerful. then i got into a Maller (with far too little skills to really be flying it) and was very disappointed. however i was able to do the missions slowly warping in and out and the such. ok getting off topic here back to your question ... go for pulse lazers ab armor tank and your basic armor repper and damage control for missions.

Now for my real suggestion. once you can use the punisher for level 2 missions switch gears fully to caldari and train up for a drake - its not PVP unless your in a gang but PVE made seriously simple. a passive drake will run level 4's (slowly but it can do it) personally i would take it to 0.0 its a tough bird to take down and there is more isk in 0.0.

After you can fly this then go back and learn other ships its just real nice to have a safety net and the drake is about the easiest ship to fly imo, I'm sure someone will flame this but its really the truth.

only bad side is once you want to PVP decently solo your going to want almost anything but caldari ships which means all kinds of new training.

I went this route so I could build isks and always have this to fall back on in a pinch.

Contact me in game if you like through eve mail. Under the name Soulrevin I don't mind giving up the real ingame name as I have nothing to hide.

next I know my spelling is terrible so comments on spelling and grammar.... have fun thinking the rude remarks, you just sound like a jerk by posting on it. you get what is meant when reading a post and thats the important part.

destroyers will run the missions faster then frigates and a basic destroyer is not that much more to buy or equip, same type of fitting with lots more guns and also, learn to salvage ..... learn to salvage ASAP, toss the metal scraps you get keep the rest. There is money in salvaging even for the new guys.

So if you want to grab yourself the amarr destroyer to tide yourself over till you can get into something better, a little variety goes a long way in game experience.

Also be prepared to sit in one ship for a while its a big leap to get from being able to fly a ship to being able to fly a ship well, and generally you want to be pretty good in the ship you have before going into the next step up.(eve is a game of patience when it comes to skills)

Each class of module has a named item that give a benefit over the intro item...ex:
Im Caldari, for the rail guns...the best named item is the prototype gun.

I agree completely with nlorence. For running missions when you first start out, nothing beats a destroyer. It's designed for killing frigates. With so many hi slots, don't feel like you have to buy the most expensive weapons - you can go for quantity over quality. Just be careful if you go up against a cruiser. The increased signature radius of the destroyer means you're going to take more damage from medium and large weapons than a frigate would.

nlorence is right about salvaging too. It doesn't take too much time to train for it, there's the potential to make some pretty good money. It just takes a little patience.
